OraTech Partners with GSK

OraTech LLC is a Salt Lake City based private label manufacturer with expertise in dental and medical products. The company partners with some of the largest pharmaceutical, consumer healthcare and cosmetic companies in the industry, to develop and deliver custom and market-ready products to meet precise specifications. Recently, OraTech and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) decided to collaborate to develop a disposable teeth whitening system. GSK wanted to break into the fast-growing teeth whitening market. OraTech, a contract label manufacturer specializing in dental and medical products, was in the market for a partner to help develop and launch a disposable teeth whitening system.

The partnering opportunity seemed clear: OraTech had the product idea, patents and manufacturing capabilities while GSK had the product development, marketing, sales and distribution capabilities. The result: Aquafresh White Tray.

OraTech already had a disposable tray technology being used in the professional dental arena but they believed there was still considerable growth opportunity. Their goal was to find a partner with brand recognition, significant shelf space and the ability to fully penetrate the market. GSK appealed to them because of their superior R&D, regulatory and marketing capabilities, and their extensive history of successful collaborations. When they approached GSK they already had a teeth whitening product in Europe. Yet, seeing the potential for significant growth opportunity, GSK was open to evaluating OraTech’s disposable teeth whitening system.

Aquafresh White Tray successfully launched in January 2007, exceeding original estimates to become a leading SKU in the teeth whitening category. Both companies attribute their success to open and honest communication throughout the entire collaboration process.

According to Scot Andersen, Vice President of OraTech–responsible for maximizing OraTech’s manufacturing excellence by managing the company’s technology, new product introduction and manufacturing/distribution activities–one of the reasons behind the success of the Aquafresh White Tray is that the trays are easy to apply and the whitening gel stays in the trays, allowing for maximum results.
The Aquafresh trays may have a step up on other brand trays because OraTech’s dentistry background enables the company to create a composition of the gel content that offers the fastest acting ingredients. Additionally, OraTech has made the Aquafresh trays more atomically applicable and consumers, according to Anderson, “can just pop them in their mouths without a mirror.”

PL Developments Acquires PAL Assets

PL Developments, Westbury, NY pharmaceutical company has announced the acquisition of the assets of PAL Laboratories.  PAL operates a state of the art, pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Miami, Florida.  This facility is capable of manufacturing pharmaceutical, over-the-counter (OTC) and nutritional tablets, caplets, and two- piece hard-shell capsules.

This acquisition will pave the way for the formation of a new PL Developments’ subsidiary, Avéma Pharma Solutions.  Avéma will focus on developing and manufacturing innovative new products for the Pharmaceutical, OTC, and Nutritional markets. This cGMP facility will also allow Avéma to partner with Pharmaceutical firms to develop, manufacture, package and distribute complete, finished products for those firms to bring to market.

MMI Creative Group Wins The Gold

Market Managing Incorporated Store Brands received two more Gold ADDY awards from the American Advertising Federation. The annual event was held on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at the 2007 Fort Worth ADDY Award Gala in the Petroleum Club of Fort Worth. MMI was awarded for two packaging lines for its customer, Delhaize Group US.

Founded in 1909, The Fort Worth Advertising Club is one of the city’s oldest service organizations. Each year it hosts its local division competition for the American Advertising Awards where area designers and advertising agencies compete for gold, silver and bronze ADDY awards with their work. The categories for competition include sales promotion, out-of-home, electronic, multimedia, advertising arts and public service, and the entries range from packaging designs to complete ad campaigns.

Submissions were up 37% over 2006 so the competition was extensive. One Gold ADDY award went to MMI for On the Go Bistro in the category of Sales Promotion for Packaging Campaign. The line, On the Go Bistro, is a new private label home meal solution that features ready-to-heat meals incorporating high-quality, wholesome ingredients. On the Go Bistro will be produced and packaged for Delhaize banners Food Lion and Bloom supermarkets by Belgian company Hot Cuisine at a purpose-built U.S. plant. The chef-prepared entrees, sides, and family-sized meals will be made and shipped fresh, using no added preservatives, additives, or flavor enhancers.

Another Gold ADDY went to MMI for HOME 360 in the category of Sales Promotion for Packaging Campaign. HOME 360 is a new private label line that encompasses the full circle of general merchandise product offerings. Stylish, easy to remember and modern, HOME 360 is as much about experience and promise as the brand’s functional side. The package design communicates high quality, style, and functionality–and differentiates HOME 360 from the national brand counterparts. APPOINTMENTS:

Newcomb Named President & CEO of Resveratrol, Inc.

Resveratrol, Inc., a company which sells its raw products for private labels has named Ron Newcomb President & CEO.

The announcement was made by David Fussell, co-owner of Duplin Winery and member of the Board of Directors for Resveratrol, Inc. Newcomb plans to increase sales of Resveratrol’s three products: NutraGrape, a dietary nutritional supplement made of Muscadine grape seeds, The Vine facial cream, and The Vine body lotion.

Newcomb was the senior director of project management for Biolex Therapeutics, a plant biotech company based in Pittsboro, NC. He previously worked for Bayer Biological Products in Research Triangle Park, NC and in Berkeley, California. Prior to his time at Bayer, Newcomb was at Johnson and Johnson Products, Inc.

Resveratrol, Incorporated was founded in 1998 by David and Dan Fussell, owners of Duplin Winery.
